Anesthesiology

Anesthesia services are provided for both inpatient and outpatient services. Anesthesia services are provided in the surgical suite and the intensive care unit, as well as radiology when invasive procedures or high-risk procedures such as bronchoscopies, cardioversions, and ERCPs are performed. Anesthesia staff members also respond to codes and assist with tracheal intubation procedures when needed.

Behavioral Health - Adult & Senior

Admission to either of the behavioral health units is indicated for patients with a primary psychiatric diagnosis not related to an underlying medical condition, and ordered by a psychiatrist. All patients must be medically stable prior to admission to either unit.

Behavioral indicators for admission include, but are not limited to: suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts; self-mutilative behavior; homicidal thoughts with poor impulse control; assaultive or destructive behaviors; psychiatric symptoms severe enough to cause disordered or bizarre behavior; disorientation or memory impairment which endangers welfare of self and/or others; toxic effects of therapeutic psychotropic drugs; unresponsive to aggressive inpatient/outpatient therapy; or changes to psychotherapeutic medication(s) which may require monitoring.

It is the policy of the Saint Catherine Medical Center Behavioral Health Centers to admit only those patients whose care needs can be adequately met through our programs. Admission, the provision of services and referral of patients are not based upon race, color, religion,disability, ancestry, national origin, familial status, age, sex, limited English proficiency or any other protected status.

Laboratory Services

Saint Catherine Medical Center’s offers a full service Laboratory Department operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and accreditted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Our staff of registered Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Phlebotomists are qualified professionals with years of experience.

To assure quality standards, the laboratory participates in The College of American Pathologists Proficiency Testing Survey Program, an extensive testing program requiring perfect reported results to maintain certification.

In addition to providing inpatient and outpatient lab services for SCMCFS patients, we also offer a courier service for physician offices and other facilities, with scheduled specimen pick-up times. All results are faxed and/or mailed to the physician, based on physician preference.

In April 2007, more than $1.2 million in new laboratory equipment was added to the department. This investment has allowed the lab to more than double the menu of available tests that can be performed in-house, from 44 to 89; as well as increasing the number of tests that can be completed per hour to 990. For physicians and patients, this equates to quicker results and earlier treatment.
We also offer testing for area businesses as part of our Industrial Medicine Program, collecting random drug test samples at the business or our location.

Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs Occupational Medicine Program specializes in the evaluation and treatment of medical conditions related to work, including pre-employment screenings and periodic medical examinations, drug and alcohol testing, and treatment of Worker’s Compensation injuries.

Therapies

Physical Therapy is a branch of rehabilitative health that uses a specially designed therapeutic program aimed to improve a person’s physical ability.  Instructional support and treatment of physical disabilities provided by a trained physical therapist under a doctor’s prescription will help a person improve the use of bones, muscles, joints, and nerves. 

Occupational Therapy helps to achieve the highest level of function and independence possible, following a disability, illness, or injury.  Our highly trained therapists will help to improve strength, endurance, coordination, and functional abilities. 

Speech Therapy is used to improve communication skills and to assess swallowing capabilities.

Radiology / Interventional Radiology

The Radiology Department at Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs offers a comprehensive range of services, including diagnostic imaging, mammography, CT, MRI, fluoroscopic studies, DEXA scan and ultrasound.

The Radiology Department is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and inspected by the American College of Radiology, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, as well as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under the Mammography Quality Standards Act. In addition, all Saint Catherine Medical Center Radiology Technicians are registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and there are Certified Mammography Technicians on staff.

Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs also has Computed Radiography (CR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) technology. The CR technology provides more imaging options for technologists for better views. The PACS allows reports to be sent digitally, allowing for more timely results and treatments for patients. If a patient requires a copy of an image, there are no more films and bulky x-rays to carry.
